Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): The State Bank of India (SBI), Tuensang branch, has been accused of illegally constructing a cabin extension and toilet within the office premises without the knowledge of the public and other organisations, by some individuals.

The signatories namely ILT Sangtam, Akiu Yimkhiung, M Aku Chang, YN Mongko Chang, KAS Chang and TG Sangtam claimed that they were shocked to find the construction without roofing and proper pillar when they went for inspection. They have appealed to the higher authority to look into the temporary construction and take immediate action.

The signatories also accused the bank manager of misusing power in official matter under SBI main branch, Tuensang. They alleged that several complaints have been received from the public ove delay of loans after the joining of FO (Agri), and the chief manager of the branch. They went on to allege that the people of Tuensang were facing a lot of hardship and difficulties after their joining.

The signatories, therefore, appealed to the AGM of SBI, Mokokchung, to immediately transfer them and replace with generous and hardworking officers for the sake of Tuensang people.

However, the chief manager of SBI Tuensang, Luhoi Besii clarified that the construction work was initiated by local head office at Guwahati and the contractor (a Naga) was someone he had never seen or met “until the work was executed” and denied any relation with him.

He stated that the work order or everything related to the construction was issued by the head office and nothing was done from the branch level. He also clarified that the toilet was still under construction and therefore there are no plaster, roof, windows and others.

Regarding the pillars, he admitted that there were some discrepancies, while adding that the technical team hasdrectified.

On the issue of loan, he stated that there were few people who acted as middlemen in the past. He added that his team and the civil organisation had met and decided to do away with middlemen system “so that the real beneficiaries directly take loan from the bank and also recover them.”

Meanwhile, the president of Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU), Bongsu shared that SBI Tuensang was practising the ‘dalal system’ few years ago. He, however, stated that they were able to control the practice with the initiative of the students’ union and the bank staff.

He also informed that 3-4 dalals were caught red handed.
